Disabling Browser Choice During OSD

For some time now, customer in the EU have been presented with the Browser Choice application which is a KB update designed to settle a legal dispute with the EU Commission. In the enterprise this is often not required and can be disabled because we have a corporate standard which dictates which browser our employees use by default.

You can turn off the Browser Choice update using a number of methods, each of them is listed below.

Remove the Update

You can remove KB976002 which installs this functionality using the following command line:

wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:976002

Modify the Registry

You can also run the following command line which will also disable this functionality:

reg.exe add HKLM\Software\BrowserChoice /v Enable /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Each method is a valid one but you may need to use one or the other depending on the operating system you are using. A final option is to add the registry fix into your unattend file in the specialise phase by adding a synchronous task to amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Deployment_neutral.
